Life arrives with difficulty in its hands;
Loss, pain and potential in its eyes.
Its uncertainty, preying on the foolish and the wise.
Forever we falter in the act of protection;
For untimely is life’s checkered insurrections.
The teacher of lessons for battles yet fought;
Battles won, though not without loss.
For life accepts no final defeat.
It rocks all constantly, until all falls asleep.
Experiencing life inevitably means encountering difficulty, loss, pain, and uncertainty. There’s no way to shield someone completely from hardship without also removing them from life itself. This truth can be both liberating and painful. Liberating because it reminds us that struggle isn’t a sign of failure, it’s simply part of being alive. Painful because we naturally want to protect those we love from suffering, yet we’re ultimately powerless to do so completely. Choose resilience over protection. Teaching someone to swim rather than keeping them away from water. The real gift we can offer others isn’t a life free from challenges, but the tools, support, and presence to help them navigate whatever comes.
