Imagine

An 85th birthday nod to John Lennon

Imagine no possessions

I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger

A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people

Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer

But I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us

And the world will live as one.

What if the root cause of human suffering is our pursuit of permanence? No other species on earth seek permanence. Vast species capable of all the feelings of humans live and die; never seeking to own the land they live on or pass it on. Permanence often creates fear of loss, anxiety over the future, and attachment to possessions or status. By contrast, impermanence is freeing, and accepting it does not equate to apathy. Imagine we lived for passing not permanence? Imagine mankind without the need for preservation. Imagine all achieved in a lifetime ceased with life's time… returning not to heirs but to the living here. Imagine in the end everything returned to the commons, each generation starting fresh. Would you labor to accumulate happiness or to increase happiness? Would you do simply because you wished to see something done? Plant fruit trees simply because you desired fruit. Would you strive to be more selfless and less selfish? Imagine simplicity as sophistication. Imagine you could imagine this? Can’t? Imagine that.
